Singer Frank Ocean performs onstage at the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Staples Center on Feb. 10, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.

The audience waved pom-poms to cheer  Ocean on as he sang “Forrest Gump” off of his incredible channelOrange album. He was dressed like a character from a Wes Anderson movie, complete with headband that matched his yellow suit, as he ran on stage to deliver a syrupy slow and understated performance of the already slow track. The visuals that accompanied the song were stunning–as Ocean played, his legs continued to run, digitally, in a literal interpretation of the lyrics, while the stage was lit up like a road. It was beautiful and strange, which ended up being mesmerizing. However it seemed like his nerves got the better of him and he seemed to lose the tune a few times. It was a strange song choice that he wasn’t quite able to pull off.

GRADE: B

Next LL Cool J, Travis Parker, Chuck D, Z Trip, and Tom Morello, “Whaddup” / “No Sleep Till Brooklyn”
